JOHNSTONE CONSTRUCTION HAS A GREAT TEAM CREW ON SITE

fLORA RIVERS
APPRENTICE CARPENTER

After her marketing studies at the National University of Samoa Flora moved to New Zealand where she gained a Level 3 Carpentry Certificate from UNITEC.

Upon completing her Carpentry studies Flora was referred to Johnstone Construction by UNITEC to take on a Hammer Hand role. Flora had previously come across Johnstone Construction at the Women In Trades 2018 conference where they were hosting a ‘Have A Go’ excavator activity. She was impressed that Johnstone Construction were so very supportive of gender diversity in the trades and she now proudly holds the title of their ‘first female site crew member’.

Flora won the 2019 Mitre 10 Trade Keynote Award and will be giving the keynote address at the annual Women in Trades conference. The award recognises an inspiring and aspirational tradeswomen and provides them with public speaking coaching to share their story with other women interested in trades careers.

Prior to her carpentry studies Flora worked for three years with Online Republic as a Sales Support Consultant. Her friendly personality has been well received by her site crew team mates.

When she’s not working on a Johnstone Construction site Flora spends her time talking to her family back home in Samoa and reading for leisure.

“Johnstone Construction has a GREAT team crew on site.”
