From Labourer to Carpentry Apprentice in just 1 year!

We are very pleased to announce that Michael Katene is beginning his Carpentry apprenticeship with Johnstone Construction. Michael will be studying with BCITO and working under our own Tane Mason as he works towards becoming a fully qualified Carpenter.

Michael is dedicated to his own upskilling and education - after leaving school in 5th form he pursued a career in Silviculture and forestry gaining his level 4’s. He then worked for over 10 years in the forestry sector building up an impressive collection of qualifications alongside an excellent safety record.

Michael has now brought his enthusiasm, discipline and self-motivation to a new career in construction. Originally working for a supplier to Johnstone Construction, we first met Michael at BP Connect Pakuranga. Our Contracts Engineer Chris Barry was very impressed with his work ethic and attitude and especially the great job he did on solid plastering – work that requires patience and attention to detail.

When a role came up at Johnstone Construction we were thrilled to have him on board. He has proven to be a fantastic asset to the team getting on well with everyone on site. We are proud of the speed at which Michael has progressed from being a labourer to one of our key team members.

In the year since joining Johnstone Construction Michael has consistently embodied the company values in his approach to the job; he demonstrates integrity - no matter the task he always puts in his best effort without supervision; he is committed to his team mates and always there to help them out; and he consistently delivers a high standard of workmanship.

We are looking forward to supporting Michael to achieve his Carpentry qualification and sharing the journey with him.
