Johnstone Construction specialisE in SELF-PERFORMING complex commercial and light industrial builds.

We deliver big company projects with a small company’s focus on customer service and attention to detail.

We are a high-performing team of Engineers, QS’s and Tradespeople, supported by a Senior Leadership team who stay close to the site and our clients. If we haven’t gotten our boots dirty, it must be a public holiday.

We focus on 3 core areas to keep our company performing at the top of the game:

Business Sustainability
Relationships
HSE Management

DELIVERING GREAT PROJECTS NOW MEANS ALWAYS LOOKING AHEAD.

As the external landscape continually shifts the most important focus for Johnstone Construction is everyone in the company having the tools and training to continue working safely and collaboratively.

LONG TERM BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLANNING.

Our foresight in setting up Business Continuity Processes enabled minimal lost time during Alert Levels 3 and 4.

Over the last 5 years we have rolled out a complete remote access system as all our key software has become cloud-based. We have provided data-enabled mobile devices or laptops to every team member enabling them to work virtually, whether from at home or on site, while staying in touch with each other and across all our projects.

CONTINUAL INVESTMENT IN TECHNOLOGY.

We consistently invest in and upgrade our technology to ensure we are using the best the construction-tech industry has to offer.

Using the best subscription and cloud-based software means we are always working with the latest version and that we can scale our licences up to match the needs of individual jobs.

Our team are always upskilling to get the most out of our technology investment.

VIRTUAL DASHBOARDS & DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT.

Having teams at Head Office and sites across Auckland and Northland means our virtual technologies are more important than ever.

Well before COVID-19 struck we used document management system Procore, monitoring and reporting dashboard Acuite and Microsoft One Drive to centralise all our systems and ensure everyone works off the same plan.

RELATIONSHIPS MATTER.

The most important factor in any successful business or project is the people working on it. We look after our relationships within the teams, across the business and with all our stakeholders - whanau, clients and suppliers.

COLLABORATION IS
KEY TO OUR EFFICIENCY.

Collaborative relationships on site help everyone to avoid unexpected costs and variations to the work agreed – ensuring our clients are not struck with any surprises.

The close working relationships throughout the company assist quick decision making. This is important when issues inevitably arise during the construction process – our people are empowered and supported to respond and deal with them.

Our collaborative approach with key industry providers means we can call on expertise with a phone call.

PROBLEM
SOLVERS.

Our long experience in the industry gives us a unique ability to proactively diagnose and remediate issues quickly and with the least possible cost to our clients.

Our long standing relationships with key industry suppliers and consultants mean we can meet the challenges of each project as they arise.

Our excellent sub-contractor relationships ensure there is a long standing workforce of top quality tradespeople to call on for every job around the upper North Island. These relationships provide us with the expertise to take on the most technically difficult jobs.

SMALL MANAGEMENT TEAM KEEPS US AGILE.

Our company size means everyone in the management team remains in touch with the day to day progress of a build making us quick and agile in our response to issues as they arise.

Our analysis and reporting dashboard ‘Acuite’ is key to keeping everyone on the team informed of the projects progress. The whole team use the information from ‘Acuite’ to keep clients, consultants, contractors and suppliers up to date with real time information about the project.

Our close contact with everyone involved in the project results in quick decision making which saves time and money.

WORLD CLASS HSE SYSTEMS.

We pride ourselves on not only the quality and speed of our project delivery but our excellent track record in health and safety.

International standard management systems – we are IS Networld ‘A’ grade.

Johnstone Construction’s systems have been audited by IS Networld to ensure compliance with international best practice and safety standards. The ‘A’ rating we achieved with our initial submission reflects the high importance we place on having robust and practical HSE management systems.

All our systems and procedures meet our responsibilities as a PCBU in the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

Everyone’s accountable - company wide engagement in HSE management.

All staff are Site Safe accredited and are required to undertake at least 1 week of training each year to upskill in HSE management and compliance. Our average Site Safe audit results are 95 to 98% - well above the industry average.

As members of the Contractors Federation, Site Safe, BP Accredited Contractors Forum and National Association of Women in Construction all our staff take an active role in keeping abreast of the latest in health, safety and environmental management best practice.

Site safety is an ongoing activity.

A site specific health and safety plan is produced and submitted prior to the initiation of every project and is kept ‘live’ throughout. As new health and safety matters arise on site they are logged by the team and disseminated through tool box talks and site logins at our ‘Safety Station’.

A copy of our full health and safety policy document is available on request.
