Susy is a former professional athlete and high performance coach who was the first New Zealander to qualify in 2 different codes for the same Olympics and has 300 career podiums under her belt. But when asked about her proudest achievements to date she will talk about her pride in her family, husband Chris and son Sebastian, and her successful application to remove three parties from a multi-million dollar weather-tight homes claim. It is this positive attitude and thinking of the team ahead of herself that makes her such an integral part of Johnstone Construction.
Susy enjoys working in the construction industry alongside honest, hard-working people, whose ability to work towards a goal, under pressure, while managing adversity and putting in a hard day’s physical work, are the very same qualities she loves about sport. She won’t be giving up cycling any time soon as it is important to her to balance sedentary office work with physical activity.
A qualified member of the bar, Susy brings her legal and managerial experience to the running of Johnstone Construction. Her knowledge of the Employment Relations Act is highly valued, ensuring Johnstone Construction are good employers and that the team are aware of their rights and obligations. Susy has given the team on the ground the confidence to navigate changes to the Health and Safety in the Workplace Act by providing crucial risk assessments, reporting and problem solving so they can keep focused on the construction process.
“I love the people and the energy at Johnstone Construction. The size and close knit nature of the company makes for a very positive energy and everyone who works here is motivated. You’re encouraged and supported to take opportunities to better yourself – through academic style learning opportunities or hands-on specific construction experiences. The work is varied and interesting – never a dull moment!”
