Tane brings six years of carpentry experience, along with strong leadership skills, to his role at Johnstone Construction. Coming to New Zealand from Perth in Australia the climate has been a bit of an adjustment for him but he is happy to be ‘home’ and extending his construction knowledge into Site Management and Engineering.
He previously worked in Perth with Lancini Homes, starting out as an apprenctice tradesperson and from there moving into carpentry. Tane is now a qualified carpenter and holds a Level 3 Certificate in Hospitality Operations – a surprisingly apt qualification for managing all the people and equipment coming and going from Johnstone’s Construction’s sites as Tane is respected by all who work with him as a calm and detail oriented Site Manager.
Tane has only recently undertaken the Site Management role at Johnston Construction and is augmenting this with study toward a Diploma in Civil Engineering, for which he has the full support of the Johnstone Construction team.
His enjoyment of the construction industry is rooted in love of being a part of projects as they turn from a plot of land into a finished building – creating a lasting product that he and the team can feel proud of.
Tane moved to New Zealand to learn more about the Maori culture, especially Te Reo, for which he is taking lessons. The team enjoy giving his Aussie accent a hard time but are very proud of the effort he is putting in to connecting with his tikanga.
Outside of work Tane enjoys time at the beach, especially the chance for long walks (this may have been shared in jest) and catching up with his New Zealand family. He is a big fan of rugby league and enthusiastically follows the league season.
‘The varied cultures at Johnstone Construction makes it an interesting place to work’ says Tane.
