It's a 2-fer! Georgia Danford is also a finalist in the NAWIC-BCITO awards.

Georgia began an internship at Johnstone Construction during her University break in 2017 and the team were so impressed with her work ethic and enthusiasm for the construction sector that they offered her an ongoing part-time role as an Administration and Accounts Assistant.

Georgia’s learnings from her ongoing Law studies has been put to good use as she assists Managing Director Hugh Johnstone to update the company’s Environmental Management policy. This was a large task and required reading up on the current legislation, researching other organisations policies and then drafting up a policy for Hugh to develop.

This work came at a particularly busy time in Georgia’s university calendar but she took on the task, worked hard and delivered a great outcome in a short timeframe.

Georgia has been pro-active about developing environmental initiatives in the office including; reducing paper usage by shifting to a paperless accounts system, introducing separate recycling bins supplying site teams with re-usable plastic cups and BYO water bottles.

Georgia is eager to learn about the ins and outs of a construction site so she can often be seen out with the crew learning about the industry (literally!) from the ground up and even spending time in the new 13 tonne digger.  She values the site visits as it broadens her understanding of the costs involved to run a project and the health and safety requirements of a higher risk work environment.

After completing her initial Internship during the holidays she knew that Johnstone Construction was a work environment where she wanted to spend more of her time to learn the practicalities of the construction sector. So in 2018 she shifted her studies from the Bachelor of Art component to instead start the Bachelor of Laws to focus on occupational HSE & Environmental regulations.

When Georgia isn’t at the office, on site or doing her University readings, she spends her time on her bicycle and at the gym persueing her aspiration to represent New Zealand internationally in elite cycling. Georgia is sponsored by Johnstone Construction to take part in cycling races both domestically and internationally. She proudly wears the Johnstone Construction cycling kit when she races

Congratulations Georgia - we look forward to celebrating with you on the awards evening!
